Ambassador Arthur Lenk – International Diplomacy

Arthur Lenk

On 14 May 1948 the United Nations Assembly officially recognized Israel as an independent nation, and while the current iteration may only be 68 years old, Israel holds one of the oldest and most fascinating backstories in history. No matter where your political or religious flag may be planted, it is hard not to be intrigued by the vast amount of history that is so densely saturated in such a tiny area.

This week on The Malliard Report, Jim welcomes Arthur Lenk; a guest that branches outside the traditional line up, but is in no way any less interesting. Arthur is a diplomat that is currently an Israeli ambassador to South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, Mauritius, and formerly the ambassador for the Republic of Azerbaijan. He has also served as the director for the Department of International Law in the Office of the Legal Adviser of Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Arthur Lenk started his career as a medic in the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) and first aid instructor at the IDF’s officer training school between 1984 and 1986. From there, Arthur went on to study law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem where he was able to obtain an LL.B. in 1990 and became a member of the Israeli Bar in 1991, then was admitted to the New York Bar in 1992. Eventually he went on to acquire his LL.M in International Law in 2003 while acting as a practicing lawyer in Jerusalem.

Arthur began to venture out of the realm of law and into geopolitics when he joined the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a Foreign Service cadet and participated in the Foreign Officer Training Program in 1994. In 1996 Arthur was sent to the Israeli Embassy in New Delhi, India, where he served as Second Secretary for Cultural and Academic Affairs. Following his term in India, Arthur was then transferred to the Consulate General of Israel to the Southwestern United States, Los Angeles, where he served as Consul for Communications and Public Affairs until 2000. Arthur has also served as a media spokesman for many outlets such as CNN, BBC, Le Monde, and NPR, appointed to be the fourth ambassador to Azerbaijan, and was even awarded the “Outstanding Diplomat” citation all prior to his current position.

So join us as Arthur shares his quest for positive Israeli public relations, the fascinating ancient history of Israel, and the current technology boom that is happening that rivals that of the US’ Silicon Valley.

  1. Great interview! Glued to my speakers since mainstream media loves to continuously portray Israel as the conquerers and their neighbors as animals in order to encourage blood on the streets in exchange for näive viewers/ratings. Jim was brilliant, fair, and articulate, asking relevant questions without exploiting the plight of the state of Israel and its neighbors. A network news station could not bribe Malliard with all their entire budget to do so, as they do with their hatchetmen and their talking points for much less. Ambassador Lenk is a true leader and champion not only for his people, but our human race as a whole. As my Lord himself stated:

“Blessed are the peacemakers. For they will be called the children of God.”

    – Matthew 5:9

This was very refreshing to listen to and gives me hope in a hopeless world. For as proud children of science and reason the leaders of this world have made themselves orphans of kindness and wisdom.

    Kudos to you both!
