David Perrodin

With the most recent tragic events that transpired in Ohio and Texas and with the new school year already kicking off for some and just around the corner for others, it is very understandable that there is a bit of an air of fear circling people currently. We all prioritize the safety of our children and selves over anything else, but it can be difficult at times to understand exactly how we can do it. What is the answer? Take up personal arms? More security in locations where people gather? Increased surveillance state? This week’s guest on The Malliard Report is not only a returning favorite, but an expert in the aforementioned field. The Safety Doc himself, Dr. David Perrodin is back to talk about current trends in the industry, the recent string of violence, and simple ways you can protect yourself.
Dr. David Perrodin separates empirical evidence from mainstream hysteria in response to local and global safety issues. His work centers bullying, harassment and threat input systems that help promote safe environments for the 55 million students that attend school in America each day! Dr. Perrodin’s incorporates perspectives from several industries to best inform school safety practices. As an expert in safety preparedness and response, Dr. Perrodin has presented on public television, in school districts and at school safety conferences. He has access to the top safety specialists in the industry and works collaboratively with this talented network to bring unparalleled services to clients. In 2016, he partnered with Pulitzer Prize winning author and producer David Obst to write and direct a script involving an intruder in an elementary school setting.”
Dr. Perrodin’s most recent book “School of Errors establishes another voice in the discussion of how to promote safe schools. It challenges the unchecked expansion of school fortification and hyper-realistic intruder drills and questions the realized benefit of inter-agency collaboration during a sentinel event. This book offers an alternative to traumatizing simulations by providing clear options for improving school safety by the empirically-proven effective measures of instructing situational awareness and teaching students to identify and report threats of harm to self or others. School of Errors restores the scientific method to school safety and clears a path through the media rhetoric fogging this vital topic.”
One of the biggest failures on people’s part that is seen on a regular basis is that of maintaining situational awareness. We are too focused on our devices that often we have no idea of what is going on in our surroundings. Whenever you go into a place (even if you have been there a hundred times before) take a look around. Note the exits, paths leading to, any potential cover and concealment locations and the quickest way to those if needed. There is no need to be hyper observant on the verge of paranoia, just keep aware of what is going on. Lastly, trust your gut. If something feels off or not right. Don’t ignore it.
This is a great episode, and Dr. Perrodin is a wealth of knowledge. You can head over to his website where you can order his latest book “School of Errors” as well as catch up on his latest seminars. For all things, Malliard makes sure to head over to or connect through social media @Malliard.
